Melrose Education is celebrating the success of learners at its Highgate Hill House School who have taken part in the transformative Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award Programme. The initiative, which is widely available across Melrose Education schools, encourages young people to develop essential life skills, confidence, and independence through a variety of challenges and activities.
Recently, Highgate Hill House School marked a significant milestone as nine learners achieved their Bronze DofE Awards, with an additional three completing the expedition component of the programme. The learners’ achievements were honoured during a special ceremony, where DofE verifier Mike Jelly presented certificates and bronze pins. The event was attended by proud families, staff, and supporters, celebrating the culmination of months of dedication and personal growth.
Principal Kerry Taylor expressed her pride in the learners, stating:
“We are incredibly proud of these young people for their determination and resilience. They have shown that with hard work and teamwork, great things can be achieved. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff and to the families who supported this incredible journey.”
The ceremony also highlighted Highgate Hill House School’s commitment to offering meaningful opportunities that prepare learners for life beyond the classroom. The festivities included a celebratory atmosphere with plenty of smiles, shared pride, and festive mince pies.
